Building the foundation for Edmonton’s economic competitiveness is a City responsibility that hasn’t gotten the focus it needs. If elected, Michael Oshry will work to change that.

Today the Michael Oshry for Mayor Campaign outlined leading provisions of the fiscal and economic platform pillar that he will advance if elected. A key piece of our platform is ensuring a stable, predictable budget and taxes for Edmonton households and businesses for four years. To do that, we’re committing to specific goals that we’ll be accountable for:

Edmonton- Michael Oshry launched his campaign for Mayor of Edmonton this morning in an online event featuring former Oilers captain Andrew Ference, small business owner Holly Mah, and PCL CEO Dave Filipchuk. Due to Covid restrictions, the launch took place as a zoom meeting (aren’t we all sick enough of those by now!) but that’s how it had to be and so that’s how it was.

Oshry was born in South Africa and moved to Edmonton with his family as a child. He started his career as a small businessperson as the founder of the iconic Edmonton restaurant, Remedy Cafe. He opened the original Remedy location on 109 St., and also for a time owned and operated a Sugar Bowl location on 124 St. “When I first met my wife Alissia 25 years ago, occasionally when we were short-staffed, I was sleeping on a mattress in the back of that Sugar Bowl”, Oshry recalls.

Good morning.

Firstly we acknowledge that we are on Treaty 6 territory, a traditional meeting grounds,
gathering place, and travelling route to the Cree, Saulteaux, Blackfoot, Métis, Dene and
Nakota Sioux. We acknowledge all the many First Nations, Métis, and Inuit whose
footsteps have marked these lands for centuries.

I am so pleased to be here today, in my living room – to officially launch my Mayoral
campaign.

Whether you are joining us live or watching this in your own time, thank you so much for
being here.
